Quality Improvement for TB Case Management  
     
 

 

About This Course 

This course provides information and guidelines for planning and implementing a systematic quality improvement (QI) program for TB case management. The course introduces participants to QI concepts and practices through a series of online lessons. Participants are provided with assessment tools and resources. The aim of the course is to develop the learners' capacity to respond to real-time and retrospective case management issues. 

Course Learning Objectives 

By the completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify three levels of quality improvement for TB Case Management

  • Identify three data sources for TB Case Management quality improvement activities 

  • Identify at least three principles of a comprehensive and effective quality review process 

  • Identify at least four benefits that quality improvement programs bring to TB control programs 

  • Identify two case-level patient outcome standards 

  • Identify the four primary goals of tuberculosis case management 

  • Identify and order the steps in tuberculosis case management described in this course 

  • List six standards necessary for effective case management 

  • Identify at least four approaches and tools, which can be utilized when conducting real time and retrospective evaluations. 

Target Audience 

The primary audiences for this course are tuberculosis program managers, case management supervisors, and staff responsible for making improvements with case management practices. 

All learners should have, at minimum, background and knowledge about tuberculosis control and completely understand the disease, its pathogenesis, and transmission. They should know how to diagnose, screen, and treat the disease, and be familiar with infection control issues. For learners unfamiliar with case management, the course provides an overview with the essential elements of case management, including roles, responsibilities, tasks, and standards.
