Health needs of men who have sex with men

Men are generally badly served by doctors, but gay men get an even worse service. This article outlines the key health issues of most concern to men who have sex with men and offers tips on asking difficult questions.

Learning outcomes
After completing this module you should:

  1. Understand the distinction between the terms "gay" and "men who have sex with men"

  2. Have appreciated why gay men are reluctant to use primary care services, and considered how you can make your practice more "gay friendly"

  3. Know what health issues are particularly important to men who have sex with men

  4. Have considered how to tackle difficult issues sensitively and without prejudice.
