Transmission
of HIV / AIDS |
| A person can get infected with HIV / AIDS
through the following ways : |
| |
| |
| |

Unprotected Sex : Sexual intercourse with an infected person without
the proper use of condom can result in HIV infection. The sexual act can be both vaginal
or anal. |

Sharing of needles : Sharing needles or syringes used
by an infected person, either
for injecting drugs, drawing blood or for any other purpose
involving piercing, can lead to HIV infection. Instruments used for
piercing and tattooing also carry a small risk of infection.
| |
| |

HIV infected blood :
Transfusion of infected blood can lead to HIV infection. |
| |
| |

Mother to Child: An HIV
positive mother can transmit the virus to child during pregnancy or
birth. Breast milk can also act as a transmission-medium.
Theoretically, oral sex without condom (on men) or barriers like
dental dam, vaginal dams or plastic wrap (on women) can also
transmit the infection.

| |
| |

Improperly sterilized
hospital tools : Surgical devices like syringes, scalpels
and instruments which have been used on an infected person, are reused on another person without proper sterilization,
can result in transmitting HIV infection.
